A long climb north to Safed (Tzfat), one of Judaism's four holy cities and a hill town known for its artist quarter and mystical history.
About 170 km, usually 2 hours via Route 6 and then a steady climb up into the Upper Galilee hills. Safed sits at over 900 meters, so the final stretch is noticeably different driving from the flat coastal highway earlier in the trip.
The Old City and artist quarter have narrow, winding streets not well suited to large vehicles, so we typically drop off at the nearest accessible point and confirm exact walking directions from there if your accommodation is deep in the old quarter.
This is one of the longer, higher-elevation routes we run, so we plan the trip with a bit more buffer time than a flat coastal route of similar distance.
